Principal Burns

Ms. Burns graduated from Prairie View A&M University in 1993 with a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Reading Specialization endorsement. In 1993, she began her career in Bryan ISD at Kemp Elementary School where she taught 2nd and 4th grade for 9 years. In 1997, Ms. Burns was named Teacher of the Year for her campus. In 2002, she took a position as a 4th-grade teacher at Magrill Elementary in Aldine ISD. While at Magrill she worked as a lead teacher, Skills Specialist, and Testing Coordinator. In 2005, Ms. Burns was pleased to be named Teacher of the Year in Aldine as well as HAASBE Black Educator of the Year in 2008.  In 2009, she joined the SHEL cohort and earned her Master’s degree in Administration in 2010.  She joined the AW Jones Elementary team as an assistant principal in 2013 and worked in that capacity for 5 years. She was named the principal of AW Jones PK/K School in July of 2017 and had the opportunity to learn her staff for a year before she took over in June of 2018 as the principal AW Jones PK/K School. Ms. Burns is the proud mother of two Nimitz graduates and a Nimitz High senior. As the principal of Jones PK/K she is committed to the mission and vision for Jones PK/K.
